It all started when I booked a one-way flight to London this Summer.

Why?

Because it sounded like a good idea.

Well, here’s what really happened: I discovered flight tickets for less than $200!

Say what? Yes, I had to put on my glasses to make sure my eyes weren’t deceiving me.

It was REAL. The tickets were less than $200 (including taxes!).

Sounds like a great idea that I needed to take advantage of!

After being hypnotized by that fantasy price, I woke up and realized I didn’t have anywhere to stay.

Wowzers. What’s a woman to do?

I called on my amazing world traveling friend, Tiffany, and she hooked me up!

Don’t Be Sleeping on Airbnb

“Why don’t you use Airbnb?”

Tiffany saved the day! She supplied me with her Airbnb referral code so that I could receive a discount when I booked my first stay.

Well that discount came in handy! My final price for a 3-night stay in London was less than $60.

And I didn’t spend $60 from my savings. I just used my credit card rewards.

Don’t be afraid to use those discounts and rewards! It will allow you to have more money on hand to create lasting memories and dive into the best foods.

My First Airbnb Experience

So what do I think about Airbnb?

I used Airbnb for the first time and found my first place in Chislehurst, London.  Of course, there are pros and cons to my first experience but overall it was great. It was more of a learning experience to help me navigate my next Airbnb.

Next time I’ll make sure I have my own bathroom because it makes life easier. I’ll also make sure I choose an Airbnb that’s closer to the majority of my activities so I don’t spend so much time and money commuting.

Yes, if you aren’t located in the center of London, be prepared to spend money on transportation. I went to the train station featured in the image below to get to the Center. It typically takes around 30 minutes. But I also had to take a cab or bus to get to the train station.

My selected house stay included a private room, access to kitchen to cook, living room, and a shared bathroom with the host.

I absolutely loved getting to know the host. Our 10-minute conversation pumped me up.

My host was forced to quit her job and travel the world in order to receive the proceeds from winning a game show! Wow!!

Have you used Airbnb? What are your thoughts? If you haven’t tried Airbnb yet, check out these tips to maximize your experience.

1. Use a Referral Code

Before I sign up for anything, I’m always looking to find someone who has a referral code so I can get a discount and keep more of my money.

After all, your net worth isn’t influenced by how much you make but how much you keep.

2. Book Early

The most desirable places get booked fast. Do your research early and find a place that suits your living preferences.

You also may have a chance to pay half your balance now and half later. How cool is that?

Cancellations may be allowed. Check all the details before booking your reservation.

3. Read the Reviews

You must read the reviews. While pictures of prospective homes can sweep you off your feet, reviews can tell you what it’s really like to stay at a specific place.

Read as many reviews as possible and ask the host questions in advance if you need any clarification.

4. Find out the Cost of Transportation

How much will it cost for you to get to your Airbnb from the airport or wherever you will be coming from?

Plan in advance so you can choose a place that’s not expensive to navigate using public transportation or rideshare.

5. Determine What’s in the Area

What kind of community do you want to stay in? Read the house details to gather that information or ask the host.

I always ask, “how far are you from the market and restaurants?” I’m a vegan so I need access to fresh fruits and vegetables every day. You have to make sure the community makes sense for your lifestyle preferences.

6. Plan Your Next Trip

I am so glad I started using Airbnb. It makes it alot easier to travel more.
